Saturday’s Kennedy Street Festival and the opening of our Brightwood new condo project (The Nicholson Condos) tells the ULC Blog to focus in on what’s happening in the growing Kennedy Street retail and residential neighborhood in Brightwood Park.

“The Nicholson is right next to this neighborhood and Kennedy Street will play an important role for our incoming home buyers,” said Gerard DiRuggiero, Principal Broker of UrbanLand Company. “Kennedy Street is a “main street corridor” that is working hard to attract independent retailers, restaurants, private grocers and other local businesses. There’s already great flavor to the street, and it’s only getting more lively as time goes on.”

There’s already several new small rental buildings that have appeared and a steady flow of restaurant announcements. The city has approved $8 million in streetscape improvements already under way in the neighborhood. There is also plans for a streetcar that will run along Georgia Ave. NW and stop at Kennedy Street, NW, providing a direct connection to the rest of Washington and Silver Spring.

There’s 23,000 average weekday traffic coming through Georgia Avenue and Kennedy Street. The city knows it and has invested big in creating important infrastructure upgrades to attract new retailers.  This is all enhanced by a solid, stable base of homeowners with an average income of $72,560 per year. The average home selling price in 2015 was $467,000.

What’s all this add up to? A place worth checking out. Start with the Street Festival on Saturday, and stop by 1346 Nicholson Street, NW just around the corner to see some sweet new condos that are just hitting the market for the first time!
