WMATA has announced that they will be eliminating Deanwood Station’s Park and Ride lot to make space for a new mixed-use development. The parking lot is considered vastly underutilized and its 1.6 acres is better served to become housing and new retail.
Early rough studies called for a METRO garage with 150 spaces as well as an apartment building (138 units) and 10,000 sq. ft. of retail. This has transformed now into two different potential development scenarios.
The only real difference between the 2 potential project plans is that the METRO parking garage is deleted completely from one of them. The WMATA staff really wants there to be no parking component at Deanwood Station.
The community around the station is supportive of the project, which could finish up as early as 2024.
