West Baltimore City Apartment Complex Sells For $6.25 Million

The Frederick Douglass Apartments in Baltimore’s Sandtown on the west side was recently acquired for a sum of $6.25 million. The property was a 167,000 sq. ft. mixed use building that was purchased by Capital IT Partners LLC for $2.89 million in 2013.  The address is 1645 N. Calhoun Street and has also operated as a high school up until 1980. Former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall is a notable alumni.

The building currently contains one, two and three bedroom rental apartments and two non-profit organizations that operate from the first floor, Penn North Kids Safe Zone and Penn North Recovery. A portion (20 units) of the apartments are currently used as transitional housing for those recovering from alcohol and drug addiction.
