Ballston Mall in Arlington will have its own Union Market-style food hall when the development project re-opens in 2018. There are plans for over 18 different well-known food vendors that will anchore a 5,000 sq. ft. indoor & outdoor plaza at Wilson Boulevard and North Randolph Street. The name will be Quarter Market Food Hall.
The 3 story mall is changing into a 22 story, 406 unit mixed use project that will contain 66,500 sq. ft. of retail and 280+ underground parking spaces. The mall/retail portion will be known as Ballston Quarter inside the Ballston Center project.
Fun fact: Ballston Mall is the first shopping center built in the US around a multi-story parking garage. It originally opened as Parkington Shopping Center in 1951. The majority of businesses in the mall closed in May, 2016 in preparation for the redevelopment project.
