Major Food Truck Expansion for Baltimore City

Here’s more steps by Baltimore City to increase the diversity of mobile food options available in the city’s core high pedestrian traffic areas. Mayor Catherine Pugh announced that the city has approved 10 new mobile food zone locations throughout the city.

Baltimore City has had “established food truck zones” since 2014 that prevent food truck operators from operating within 300′ of a brick and mortar business selling a similar product.  The 10 new zones will be near city hospitals, college campuses and transit stations, and are allowed to operate between 9am – 3pm daily. Each food truck zone accommodates two trucks.

There is an active lawsuit by food truck owners against the city regarding their food truck zone laws. The city is basically pressured from both sides by Baltimore’s growing food truck industry and an established, vigorous local restaurant industry that has influence on lawmakers. Food truck owners are seeking to remove the mentioned 300′ sales ban.
