Signs of Building for Shaw’s Whole Foods

There’s construction staging activity on the site of the new Whole Foods coming to 965 Florida Avenue, NW in Shaw’s northern end. The 51,000 sq. ft. Whole Foods is part of a large, U-shaped project planned for the address that includes additional new retail and a large number of apartments. Project developers are MRP Realty, The JBG Companies and Ellis Development.

“We’ve been here to watch this part of Shaw grow around our brokerage headquarters at 913 Florida Avenue, NW,” said Gerard DiRuggiero, Principal Broker of UrbanLand Company. “There is already a huge amount of new successful retail right here as a result of prior JBG successes – it’s exciting to watch Whole Foods take shape next door!”

Thirty percent of the project’s planned 428 apartments will be designated as “affordable” through the city’s Inclusionary Zoning program.
