Columbia “Downtown” Attracting Flow of Large Office Tenants

Pearson PLC, an international publishing and education company, will be consolidating 4 offices from around Maryland into new office space in Columbia’s upcoming Merriweather District. The firm has taken over 75,000 sq. ft. at the Two Merriweather building currently under construction. They’ll be neighbors MedStar Health, who has taken over 100,000 sq. ft. of space next door.

Hundreds of Pearson employees and employees of their affiliate companies, are expected to relocate fully to Columbia in late 2017. Pearson also owns Connections Education, an online learning company that was once part of Sylvan Learning Systems, Inc.

One and Two Merriweather are new office buildings that are part of Columbia’s new downtown revitalization. The project is called the Merriweather District and it is part of a 30 year, $1 billiong redevelopment initiative spearheaded by master developer Howard Hughes.
