Baltimore’s Penn Station will under talks to begin again a major redevelopment initiative. A prior 4 year agreement between Amtrak and Beatty Development Group was stopped earlier in 2016. There is an open call for a new master developer to rebuild the major train station and adjacent sites. Close to a million passengers pass through Penn Station each year, many on the way back and forth from points north like Philadelphia and New York.
There is no word on why the prior agreement and plans fell apart. Beatty Development was presenting a $500 million mixed use community with 1.5 million square feet of retail and residential space on almost 2 acres next to the station.
The search for a new master developer kicks off with an “industry day” forum to be held August 10 at the University of Baltimore’s John And Frances Angelos Law Center at 10am. Amtrak will be posting a request for qualifications and a request for proposals at a future date.
