The Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) pays your Down Payment when you meet certain criteria. The money does not have to be paid back. You must have:
  • Less than $97,520/year in income (1-2 person households)
  • Less than $113,840/year in income (3+ persons)

The Maryland Mortgage Program loans you up to $8,500 in Down Payment Assistance. There's additional incentives from specific Maryland employers + great student loan incentive programs.
  • Incomes lower than $88,400 for 1-2 person households are eligible
  • Incomes between $88,400 & $128,760 may be eligible, based on county

The Fall real estate market is in full swing. Interest rates for 30 year mortgages are in their 10th straight week of under 4% rates, August turned in huge numbers for homes sold, and there’s a full calendar of $0 Down Home Buyer Workshops available throughout October.

“Every single week, twice a week, we’re out here talking to interested buyers coming out to learn more about using the popular $0 Down programs that are available in DC,” said Gerard DiRuggiero, Principal Broker of UrbanLand Company. “‘DC Open Doors’ has financed over $100 million of $0 Down loans since mid 2013 in the District and we’ve been educating the public the entire time about how to actually successfully purchase homes using the assistance.”

We have two available sessions per week – Tuesday nights at 5:30pm and Saturday mornings at 10am. “We do 2 in order to be accessible to busy schedules. We call Tuesday the After-Work Edition (although anyone is welcome!) because a lot of attendees pop in while they’re in the city for work. Saturday mornings get very busy due to to 10am free spot on many people’s Saturday mornings,” continued DiRuggiero.

“We’re always discussing $0 Down because it opens up a dialogue that deals with current real estate issues and opportunities. Right now we’re of course discussing the low mortgage interest rates and what’s probably going to happen. And we’re also always talking about current top neighborhood values,” said Gerard. “Our Workshops team are all fully licensed, very active real estate agents, and the sessions really do give you a sense on what’s happening at the street level in DC, Maryland and NOVA.”

The Workshops will also deal with topics like figuring out your real purchasing power, getting pre-qualified for financing, and how to actually shop for the right homes. In DC, you can earn up to $125,580 per year and qualify for $0 Down, as long as you have decent credit and can meet other conditions. In Maryland, household income limits vary by County.
